Australian First Lady Visits National Library of Indonesia

ALEMBA -- Australian First Lady Mrs. Therese Rein Kevin Rudd, wife of Australian Prime Minister Kevin Ruud visited National Library of Indonesia, Friday (13/6) at Jalan Salemba Raya 28A Jakarta. Mrs. Kevin Rudd was accompanied by SIKIB management (Solidarity of Wives of United Indonesian Cabinet) Erna Witoelar, wife of Australian Ambassador Mrs. Bill Falmer, some staffs of Ministry of Foreign Affair and staf of state secretariat, they were welcomed by Director of National Library of Indonesia Dady P. Rachmananta and some echelon 1,2 and 3 officers.

Mrs. Kevin Rudd was very enthusiastic to see some ancient manusripts collection, according to her, the rare collection is Indonesia`s heritage which have to be preserved. She said that a nation is well known because of its cultural heritage, including how the country manage its library. "Indonesia already has the criterion, since I`ve seen all the collection kept at this National LIbrary is very well manage and comprehensive, which could provide information to describe its cultural diversity," she said.

Collection which attract attention from Mrs. Kevin Rudd were Negara Kretagama, Kartini`s letters book and others. Beside that, the Australian First Lady was also looking at smart car owned by SIKIB and Pusteling car owned by National Library of Indonesia. During the occasion Mrs. Rudd and the parties took a picture together with Director of National Library of Indonesia and Staffs.
